The Rod blank is WinstonвЂ™s classic deep Green color, comes with the original unique corduroy 2 compartment sack and the heavy duty aluminum tube with a brass foot and screw cap. Crafted in 1989, it was designed to be the ultimate Dry Fly fishing rod.

The handle is a reverse half wells grip of high quality cork and a down locking aluminum reel seat with a Walnut insert.

The Rod is 2 piece, 4-weight, 8 foot in length, weighing 2 oz., all marked on the rod along with the special serial number (260) and Logo. The rod is being sold as is without warranty and priced as such, but has plenty of life left in it and should serve you well.DESCRIPTION This is a Twin Falls, Montana era Winston IM6 graphite 'Tom Morgan Favorite' SPECIAL OFFERING commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Winston Rod Co. I have included photo's of the poor case as it has dents and scratches, but has done it's job protecting the rod as designed. The ferrules / spigot fit is tight and positive and the guides are clean but show signs of use. The cork handle has areas of discoloration from being fished, but is solid and in average condition. The reel seat has a nice Walnut insert and the aluminum down locking butt shows signs of use. The top section is a slightly darker color (replaced by Winston with the same graphite stock as original, but the colors never match exactly) and while the top section looks in unused condition, the lower section shows evidence of moderate use (some cracking of clear coat at logo and stripper guide with rubbings and scratches on the lower section of the rod - see photos). CONDITIONUsed - This rod was returned to Winston for repair (replacement of top section and check of overall rod condition) as the tip section was broken during a fishing trip and now is in good to average condition for the use it has seen. In sum, today's IM6 rod can be most anything the rod builder desires - most certainly tougher, more shock resistant and lighter.Item: 112106880099 Winston IM6 'Tom Morgan Favorite' - 60th anniversary - Fly Rod. In truth, rod builders control three variables in designing a rod: (1) the material - graphite, resin and scrim (2) the wall thickness - a function of the number of wraps of prepreg and (3) the diameter of the blank - controlled by the taper of the mandrel. Today's IM6 uses a much improved resin resulting in a more durable versatile rod since the rod builder controls which resin is used. The scrim? The scrim is added reinforcement. The easiest way to think of it is to consider the prepreg as reinforced concrete, the 'reinforcing steel' is the graphite and the 'concrete' is the resin. Improvement has also been made in the scrim that's added usually as a thin strip of graphite, fiberglass, or some other material. There is more to it, of course, but germane to this discussion is the fact that great strides have been made in improving the resin. Before it becomes much of anything, IM6 must go through the prepreg process where it becomes a matrix of graphite fibers and resin. The term IM6 refers to the dry graphite when spooled much like yarn. The IM6 of today is not the IM6 of yesterday.

Best casting is 35 to 45-feet but she will reach out to 60 if necessity calls. It works well with Cortland's new Sylk and SA's Mastery Trout. The TMF is really a 3-weight (+) in my opinion. They say that there is nothing like a Winston and I agree. Yes it's a bit slower than many but adjusting your stroke isn't all that difficult. I fish a Winston WT 4-weight called Tom Morgan's Favorite.
